Wedding Details

Dan and I are getting married on Sept 7th in Bali, Indonesia at The Bali Mandira. We chose Bali as we wanted to have a non-traditional honeymoon throughout Asia, and actually take a decent amount of time off to explore and experience new places and cultures with each other before we settle back down. Bali was a springboard for us to get to Asia, and is absolutely beautiful and exotic. :) The only downside is it is a hike from the US and much closer for the Australian guests, but we feel like we made the right decision.

We have a wonderful wedding planner, Katie for Baliku Weddings which has really made the co-ordination of the wedding not too stressful as I don't have have to deal directly with the vendors. What has made it tough is making decisions from photos and having no idea what it is going to be like. BUT, thats the fun part right! I really don't know what my own wedding is going to be like!

My dress is a Vera Wang White that I got from David's Bridal - it is totally not what I thought I would pick, but it came down to the weight of it. The layers of tulle are a light netting so it felt breathable. I was thinking more mermaid to show off my curves, but many that I tried on were heavy and I couldn't move my legs. I was nervous about buying from David's as its totally ghetto (at least in NY), and feels like Walmart shopping, BUT I did experience trying dresses on at the high end stores and the consultants there are a bit more pushy. The girl (tween) I had at David's let me try on heaps of dresses and kind of just let me do my thing which I liked. My dress was still pretty expensive just under $1000, but in weddingland that is cheap. I still can't believe how much people spend. The most expensive dress I tried on was $10K and I tried on a lot in the $2-$3K range as $3K was my budget, but I couldn't really tell the difference in craft-ship in many of them.

I struggled more with the bridesmaids dresses as both my maids are in other countries. I really wanted one shoulder, but they can be problematic for busty girls. I ended up going with a strapless Donna Morgan Strapless Dress. Initially I had another color (a lighter yellow), but had to send it back as it looked nothing like the pictures. I am happy with the decision and can't wait to see it on!

The yellow from the bridesmaids dresses helped with picking the colors of the wedding decorations - white with a touch of yellow and green. For our ceremony we will have white flags, a wooden awning decorated with flowers and petals scattered on the asile. I am going with the traditional Bali flowers. It should look something like this:

The guys are wearing silk pants and a short sleeve shirt with pineapples on them (in white stitching so they don't stand out that much :))from Tommy Bahama. We got a great deal from the Outlet store and got 50% off over 4th of July so it worked out really well! Unfortunately I dont have a picture of this since it is last seasons stock, but it kind of looks pretty much like this:

Accessories have been consuming my life! I am SO not an accessory person. I wear my engagement ring and that is it! Rings weren't too bad as we decided to go super budget since we'll be travelling with them and ordered from Overstock.com. They are actually really great - it worked out well. We tried on similar rings in stores and they were no joke 5 times the price.

Back to the accessories. PAIN! Which earrings, what to wear in my hair, to veil or not to veil. My strategy was to look at ETSY for hours on end and stress myself out. Not a good one. In the end I decided just to buy a few cheap things and take them and see how it works out on the day. As I mentioned I dont wear any accessories, so will see how I feel on the day and if it feels right, I'll wear them, if not, I will just let my natural beauty shine thru. HA! Here is what I ended up choosing.

For my hair (only $3! Just have to glue it on a hairclip)
My veil - still not sure if I will wear, but fun right!)
My earrings, plain and simple
My bracelet - had to send it back for the white color, have not got the new one yet
I also ended up getting some custom robes made in India for my bridesmaids, flower girl, MOB and me. They came out so good and I think really fit the Asia theme. I opted for a butterfly pattern (I dont have a picture of the print though, will post from wedding photos)

I designed our own invites, broke out my dusty Adobe Illustrator skills (the jpeg colors are a little off here), but I think it came out pretty good! I have also designed the table place cards, menu cards, and table holders too.
